coming to a race course near you!

The Preview document (not finalized) of info regarding utilizing more of the race courses designated on the course sticker which everyone should have by now. We have been racing primarily an A-C (upwind-downwind) course for the past several years, with the starting line BELOW the downwind (C) gates. This pretty much locks you into courses with downwind finishes (you go across the finish line in a downwind path).

BUT… There are courses in which the committee boat and starting pin buoy are BETWEEN the upwind (A) mark and the downwind (C) mark/gates. This requires that you do NOT sail through the Start/Finish line unless you are a) Starting or b) Finishing. You would then usually be rounding the C mark/gate and then finishing UPWIND to the committee boat/Pin end of the line. The document also details how to “fix” and error where you cross over the Start/Finish line when you are NOT starting or finishing. To correct this you must “unwind” your path.

Even though this document is not completely “done”, I thought I would post it, and let everyone review and COME TO BREWSTER’S with questions tonight after sailing (or at 7 PM if we don’t sail). We anticipate we will be using some of these courses as early as NEXT week.

Memberships Past Due

Members who have not paid their 2021 membership fees will be dropped from series sailing results after they have sailed 1 week as a non-member (unpaid). Once results have been eliminated from the series results for non-payment, they will be lost. We have now completed our first week of actual racing (but are in our 3rd week of the season). Please get your membership forms and fees to Faith Akert before next week!

Click on the ALCA Membership Form item on the header above to get the proper Membership Form. If you are unsure of what fees are from the form, contact Faith Akert.

Spring Series Week #1 cancelled 5-4-21

Race Chair for the week Dave Dunlap, has made a determination that due to the overall low temperature of the air and water, we are CANCELLED for ALCA racing tonight.

We need to factor in the safety and comfort of the race committee personnel, as well the fact that there is a 10-15 MPH wind present and if anyone goes over, the thermal exposure will be on the extreme side.

There will be no resulting Zoom Results meeting as a result.

Let’s all hope for a great Week #2!

Spring Week #1 begins 5/4/21

Spring Series catamaran racing is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 3, 2021. Currently, weather is scheduled to be 60 degrees with a chance of showers. Watch our Facebook page for the latest updates or cancellations. We will do results afterwards via Zoom meeting. The link to the Zoom Results meeting is: ALCA 5-4-21 Results Zoom Meeting. We will plan on starting the meeting at 8:00 PM. If we cancel racing for the night, there will be no results meeting.

Tuesday Night Racing Check-In Required

To make the already busy Committee Boat jobs (and personnel) a little less hectic, we are asking that EVERYONE sail by the committee boat PRIOR to the 1st race starting flag going up, and announce their boat sail number, the skipper name, and the crew name (if present on the boat). If for some reason you don’t make it out to the race course prior to the 1st race, then still do this process before the 2nd race flag goes up.

If you don’t meet the minimum weight for a Hobie 16 2 person boat (285 lbs), then you MUST notify the Committee Boat that although you have 2 (or 3) people on the boat you should be scored as a SOLO boat. If you don’t do this and are challenged by anyone, you will have all races disqualified (DSQ’d) for the night.

I realize last week was our first actual night of racing for 2020, but we didn’t have everyone’s membership forms pass thru all officers that need to have information from the forms, by the time racing started. Not having who was on what boat greatly slows down the results process, which I assume you would like to have the evening of the race, rather than the next day after a flurry of emails to gather missing information must be sent.

Also, if you have already been scored one week for the year (Summer) and are NOT a paid ALCA member, you will not be scored going forward. We had a few people last year that got scored as dues paying members, but never actually joined the fleet. Not going to happen this year.
