Week 6 Spring Series (6/9/15)

This Tuesday looks like a beautiful day coming up – Partly Cloudy, 79 degrees, with WNW winds at 10-15 shifting to the SW at 5-10 mph in the night.  The most important part of this message is that we meet at Brewster’s Junction (5135 Portage Rd) after sailing!  It’s by I-94 so should be convenient for most.
Next week is still in the works, we’re hoping to work out a reserved space for us somewhere (maybe Latitude 42?).  However,  June 9th and June 23rd, we are at Brewster’s!

Week 5 Spring Series (6/2/15)

We’re at week 5 and just coming off a great regatta at our home lake, we got several races in despite the rainy weather on Saturday with no wind and despite the chilly early spring temps on Sunday and strong winds. Nice job Cesar, Jesse, Win, Dave, and everyone else!

Tuesday looks like a very pleasant sunny day, with light east wind, 5-10 mph. We have a considerable amount of food left over (Lori, Margaret and Julie were the food guru’s) and would like to share it with everyone.  We are meeting at Jeff Daane’s after or instead of racing.  His address is 9918 East Shore Dr., Portage, 49002 (for those who want to enter it into your nav. apps).  THE KEG IS DEAD……SO BYOB!  Jeff said he doesn’t remember ever seeing a keg so empty!

Austin Lake Regatta Update

Just a few reminders about the regatta next weekend:  If you are not sailing but still want to attend the dinner, it’s $10 per person, and includes barbeque from Barrett’s Smokehouse, potato salad and coleslaw from Daanes, baked beans, and Latitude 42 beer!  Sounds wonderful!  Also we are asking fleet members to provide a dessert to pass, and lawn chairs if you have them.  If you haven’t already registered for the regatta, and know you will not be sailing, please let us know if you intend on coming to dinner, we need a headcount at the beginning of this week.  Dinner is at Win and Margaret Larsens’.
Also, it’s not too late to sign up to sail!  We have about 26 boats right now, which is awesome!  Thank you to all of you who are being a host house for boats – this is what’s making this regatta happen.  If you haven’t volunteered as a host house but would like to, please let Dave or Cesar know, as additional sites would be helpful for last minute sign-ups.  Dave’s e-mail is; dadworksmi@gmail.com and Cesar’s, csantana823@gmail.com.

Committee Boat Required

Many of you were included on the new Sign-up Genius page I put together.   Note: this is for the physical boat used for the committee boat and not for staffing.  So far we have boats up to Spring Series Week 6 (June 9th) – if we don’t have a boat to use for a given Tuesday night, we won’t be sailing.   Each slot is for two weeks, with the first date listed – wouldn’t let me have two dates in the column for as far as I know at this time.  Even if you don’t have a boat, take a look at the page, it’s a neat system that could be used for whatever planning that needs to be done.

ALCA Spring 2015 Racing Series Begins!

Tuesday, May 5, 2015, we start our Spring series, white flag at 6:30 pm.  Forecast is for east wind,10-15 mph with rain showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Looking at the hourly forecast, the chances of rain decrease after 6, so there’s a decent chance that we would be able to sail.  Jerry Mohney is our race chair this year, and he will keep us posted on a go or no go decision.  We meet at Burger Towne on Shaver Road afterwards, or around 7 in the event we don’t sail.  Remember to join the fleet if you haven’t already, and coming to Burger Towne is also a great chance to sign up for the ALCA regatta on May 30-31, 2015!
