Spring Series Week 4 – May 24, 2016

This week looks much more promising for sailing, with partly sunny skies, a high of 82 degrees and SSW winds at 7-11 MPH.  Perfect conditions (at least in my book)!

We have a new sailor on our mailing list, Stuar Casteel, who Is from Marquette, MI, has sailed the Hobie 16 – mostly on Lake Superior.  He is interested in crewing, so if you need a crew, contact him using the information below.  Welcome Stuart!  I will be including this crew list weekly now, and for anyone who either knows someone who would like to crew, or is available to crew themselves, please contact me and I will add the information to the list for that week.

Also, just a reminder, some have yet to join the fleet.  Please remember to bring your checkbook or money to the after sailing gathering at Brewster’s Junction on Portage Road.

Spring Series Week 3 – May 17, 2016

This is our 3rd week of the Spring series – good call on the cancellation for last week, Jerry!

For this week, we are looking at cloudy skies, temps in the high 50’s, with light and variable winds.  Mother nature is just not cooperating lately, is it?  Maybe the forecast is not exactly accurate for Austin L – let’s hope at least………  All cancellations will be posted on Facebook and through an email like last week.   We are meeting at Brewster’s as always, after or instead of racing.

Spring Series Week 2 – May 10, 2016

We had 9 boats for a first night out last week – nice!
This Tuesday, we’re looking at a 40% chance of rain at race time, with winds out of he east at 12 mph, and very chilly temps with a high of 58 degrees!  Dress warm if you will be sailing, and stayed tuned for any cancellations.  If you have yet to join and pay your dues you can do so at Brewster’s after racing.  If we are cancelled, we still will be going over there.
Thanks to all who showed up this past Saturday for boat tuning!

Here are the details:

  • Meet at the Austin Lake landing at 11 am Saturday May 7th.
  • tune boats there and around the lake at houses who RSVP
  • lunch – either at landing or where ever the group is time and place TBD around 1 pm – 2 pm
  • Race Chair seminar on Dunlap/Rubino pontoon boat 3 – 4 pm – meet at landing if interested

Spring Series Begins 5/3/16

Tomorrow is our first Tuesday for the Spring Series, with sunny skies, temps in the low 60’s and 5 to 7 mph WNW winds.  First starting sequence is scheduled for 6:30 pm.  After the races, we meet at Brewster’s on Portage, for results.  If you have yet to join for 2016, remember to bring your money or checkbook to join – I will have forms.  Our new PRO, Jerry Mohney will discuss the new set up for weekly race chair and committee boating staffing sign-ups.
Remember, we are racing two fleets, Portsmouth A and Portsmouth B with one start for the 2016 Spring Series.

Important Fleet Meeting Sat. April 2, 2016

ALCA Fleet #519 Spring Kick-off Meeting and Hobie Stone Soup Gathering

When:  Saturday, April 2, 2016
Where:  the Akert’s—9702 East Shore Drive
Time:  5:00 Meeting; 6:30 Dinner
We are anticipating some changes to the ALCA Fleet Bylaws which will require input and voting by all fleet members, along with other important pre-season decisions (how many fleets, season start dates, how many starts, etc.).  Since no one has volunteered to be the fleet Race Chairman for the season, additional changes are being contemplated to the Fleet Bylaws.
The Party Committee will get the basic soup ingredients
(broth and meat) and fleet members need to bring the add-ins
whether it be a can of healthy veggie soup, a cup of cut up
veggies (carrots, celery, tomatoes, squash, potatoes, peas,
corn, green beans), a spice packet, can of beans or pre-
cooked pasta. We will put all into the pots and while we are
meeting, the soup will simmer and the flavors meld together!
Margaret has volunteered to make bread for this gathering so
you can bring either an appetizer, salad or a dessert. BYO
Adult Beverages.  The fleet will have some sodas and the
utensils.

Summer Series Week 10 (9/8/15)

This is our last scheduled week of racing for the year!  My apologies for this late communication – hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend and first weekend of college football – I know I sure did!  Tonight’s weather is pretty iffy, with a 60% chance of thunderstorms and SSW winds at 9 mph at 6 pm – so stay tuned.  It might turn out to be nice if there’s a break in the wave of storms.  If we are cancelled, we still will gather at Brewster’s, so plan to come out anyway – I will call ahead to reserve “our spot” for us.

Summer Series Week 9 (9/1/15)

Summer’s back!  Tuesday looks like the summer days of old, with hot temps at 86 degrees and SW Winds, at 7 mph, decreasing to 4 mph. We still meet at Brewster’s and will gather in the dining room to the left as you walk into the restaurant.

Summer Series Week 8 (8/25/15)

The summer series (and 2015 racing) is winding down, with tomorrow being Week 8 of 10.  We’re looking at cool temps, with highs around 66 degrees F, cloudy skies and WNW winds at 10-15 mph.  At Brewster’s following sailing, we meet in the dining room, as there is expected to be others in the room off to the side.  Remember to save the date of our year end party – Saturday October 3rd – we are in the process of narrowing down a few choices for our end of year dinner celebration and will get that info out to all of you as soon as we know more.

Results of the protest that was heard last week will also be discussed at Brewster’s, so plan on attending.
