Pontoon Float Party, Sunday, August 7th

We have wonderful weather predicted for this Sunday’s Float party. If you haven’t done so already, please RSVP to myself or Julie so we know how much smoked meat to order from Barrett’s.  We can arrange for rides out to the flotilla if we know you need one!
Non-lake residents please arrange for a ride for fun and sun, or be at Andy & Julie’s house (9833 Woodlawn Dr) by no later than 1:45 (when the pontoon boat leaves the dock).  Bring Jello or pudding shots or snacks to share on the water.  We will be on the water from 2-4:30 PM after which we will return to the Lenczycki’s for dinner to follow.  Fleet will provide fixin’s for tacos/wraps, fun salsa’s and some beverages.  BRING either a salad, fruit or veggies to share at Lenczycki’s.  See you on the water.

Summer Series Week 5 – August 2, 2016

Well if we didn’t have enough of the light and variable last week, guess what – we are supposed to have it AGAIN tonight.  Stayed tuned for updates on the race status, which will be posted on the Facebook page.  Statistician Andy Lenczycki will not be around,  so if we do race, results will be posted on the website late tonight.  We have the room at Brewster’s, however, not until later.  As they’ve done in the past when we are early, we have a table in the main section.

Summer Series Week 4 – July 26, 2016

For this week’s sailing, we’re looking at a summer night of weather, 86 degrees and mostly sunny, with northwest winds at 5-10 mph.  At least that’s today’s forecast for Tuesday.  We meet at Brewster’s after the racing, for results, and at least for this week, some entertainment as we will replay the races from LVACWS Portsmouth 16 that just finished earlier today (Sunday).

As a note – if anyone finds themselves not being able to sail this week (or any other) and wants to come onto the committee boat, PLEASE contact our PRO Jerry Mohney.
Float party is Sunday August 7th, details to follow very soon!  Get out your Jello and pudding shot recipes and clear room in your freezers and refrigerators……….time to get ready for the festivities!

Summer Series Week 3 – July 19, 2016

Tuesday is the 3rd week of the summer series, and hopefully the weather will cooperate, unlike last week.  Forecast is for a beautiful summer day, sunny with a high of 87, with west /northwest winds at 5 to 10 mph.   After sailing we go to Brewsters’.
Sign up lists for race committee boat, race chairmen, and race committee staff have been emailed to everyone.  Please look these over and sign up if you can.  We are still in need of a boat for August 2nd and August 9th.  If we do not have a boat for the race committee, racing will be cancelled!

Summer Series Week 2 – July 12, 2016

Firstly, we have a change of venue for our after sailing get together – Faith and Ken Akert have graciously invited us over to help finish off the keg that was left over from their 4th of July party.
The fleet will provide dogs, brats and a few salads, so hope you can make it – address is 9702 East Shore Drive.  There is trailer parking alongside the street.
Weather looks HOT, with SW winds at 8-15 mph, so should be a good night!
If you plan to sail this year – now is the time to join!  I will have membership forms on Tuesday, I want to get out the directory before next weekend, so it would be great if we could have a complete updated set of data.

Summer Series Week 1 – June 28, 2016

We do race tomorrow as it is the start of summer series, and have next week off for the bye week.  Also, wanted to let everyone know that I am filling in for Jerry as PRO for tomorrow, since he and Lori will be in Ann Arbor to welcome in the birth of their second grandbaby.  Any questions about cancellations should go to me, either by e-mail, katsail.mi@gmail.com, or text/phone: 269.598.7817.
However, it does look like a pleasant night to sail tomorrow, with temperatures in the low 70’s and NNW winds at 8-10 mph.  We go to Brewster’s following racing.
For the next Tuesday, July 5th, we have nothing formal scheduled, however, some folks will rig and sail on Austin Lake anyway, weather permitting.  If you think you’ll sail, post on our Facebook page, and others might be encouraged to get out as well.  There also may be a small gathering at a place TBD.
That’s it for now – remember – no Jerry tomorrow, direct any questions to me!

Spring Series Week 8 (of 8) – June 21, 2016

Hard to believe, Tuesday is the final week of Spring series.  We will be looking at sunny skies, with a high of 80 degrees, and WNW winds of 10-15 mph at race time.  We go to Brewster’s after sailing.

Also remember that we start directly into Summer series next Tuesday, June 28th, then have July 5th off.

Kathy Rubino emailed out the three sign-up lists for either Race Chairmen, Race Committee, or for providing your boat to be used for the race committee, all essential parts of making our Tuesday night races possible.  You will also see who thus far has volunteered their time; great thanks to all of you and also to Jerry Mohney for coordinating this group effort!  Without each of these every week, we could not race.  There are plenty of opportunities remaining for the summer series so that members can work together to make this happen.  Please consider if you have yet to sign up!

Spring Series Week 7 – June 14, 2016

Whew what a weekend!  Many of ALCA was on or near Navy Pier this weekend to cheer on Oracle Team USA in the LVACWS Chicago – what a site to see the big cats up on their foils!  And we witnessed 2 capsizes out on the water on Friday – luckily no one was hurt.  That was such a fun event, and a treat to see the boats AND teams up close!  It all just want way too fast – I’m sure many of us will be watching the video’s for days to come.
Tuesday is the second to last week of the Spring Series, and it looks like a pleasant night, with SE winds at 5 to 10 mph with a slight chance of rain.  We meet at Brewster’s following sailing.
Looking forward to the Summer Series, which starts on June 28th, we have a few things to get in order before we can race – namely the use of a pontoon boat. Jerry has asked for those who are living on the lake, to please consider signing up to provide the boat to be used for running the races.  He will have the lists at the bar.
Also, the possible dates for the float party are Sunday July 24th or August 7th, and we still need a host house for the gathering after being on the water.  Whoever volunteers as host gets to pick which of the dates we go with.
That’s it for now…….let’s hope for some good “pressure” Tuesday out on the water!
